The "$1,000 Genome" is about to be announced-Let's figure out what it is.

I want to share with you a little bit about David and Tom Gardner. How they work. And how they find stocks that are trouncing the market. Stocks like Priceline -- up 361%... Activision Blizzard -- up 589%... Netflix -- up over 190%... and the list goes on...

In fact, as of this writing, shares of some of David's and Tom's most recent recommendations are up 36%... 39%... and 61%. And overall, for the last 7 years, David's AVERAGE stock recommendation is UP 35%... and Tom's UP 22%... all while the S&P 500 has LOST 11% for the same period.

I also want to share with you a little bit about this momentous consumer genetics announcement, and hopefully help you make a bundle. And here's when it all began...
DNA's double helix
DNA, the stuff of life...

On April 14, 2003, an international group of scientists got together and made a highly anticipated announcement. After years of research and work, the Human Genome Project was complete.

It was the modern-day equivalent of the moon landing, with one important difference...

If NASA is the biggest government money-pit-boondoggle in history... mapping the human genome and unlocking the "book of life" could well be the most important, productive, and lucrative project in history!

We now know tiny DNA variations determine whether or not we're likely to get certain diseases and how we'll respond to particular treatments and drugs. Being able to "read" these variations in patients is ushering in the era of personalized medicine. And it's doing so at warp speed.

And that's a good thing, wouldn't you say? Think about the tools, and techniques, doctors have been using up until today. A typical checkup involves your doctor looking in your mouth with a wooden popscicle stick, looking into your eyes and ears with a little flashlight, taking your blood pressure and listening to your heart -- all using 19th-century tools...

Then, adding all that up, along with your answers to a few questions, your doctor applies "Occam's razor"... a 14th-century problem-solving technique that states the simplest explanation is usually the right one... and writes you a prescription or advises you on a treatment.

There's little doubt all this is about to change. But the real question for investors is when, right?

To answer that, let's look at a couple of things. First, consider how the cost of creating an individual genetic blueprint is dropping exponentially, from $13 BILLION earlier this decade to less than $50,000 today...

In fact, the cost of DNA sequencing has dropped by a factor of 10 every year for the last 4 years, a faster rate of decline than even for computers, according to Harvard genetics professor George Church.
And here's the truly great part in all this: Experts predict the $1,000 genome could be announced by 2011!

Which begs the question: Will you be properly positioned as history unfolds? Because some pretty smart investors recognize the implications and are acting right now ...

You see, pretty soon, a typical checkup will involve your doctor checking your vital signs and asking the usual questions, then opening a laptop and comparing that information against your genetic blueprint. In other words, the doctor will soon have a window to view all disease predispositions you may have...

The doctor may notice you have an increased likelihood for Parkinson's and tell you to begin taking your exercise more seriously. You may be told you have a rare abnormality that creates a vitamin D deficiency and to begin aggressive supplements to ward off osteoporosis...

Your doctor will also soon have the know-how for prescribing the right medicine at the right time, making trial-and-error treatments things of the past.

A few years ago, my good friend was diagnosed with high blood pressure. The first prescription he was given was a simple diuretic. He took it for 3 months only to find out it didn't lower his blood pressure. The second prescription he was given was an ACE inhibitor; it lowered his blood pressure but 3 months later he was coughing pretty regularly.

Now he tells me he's on a 3rd prescription, an ACE receptor blocker, which is working fine. But it took 6 months of trial and error! And this was a pretty simple issue of blood pressure. What if it was something more serious?

Consider the case of Karen Schmale of St. Louis, Missouri... After she was diagnosed with some dangerous blood clots in her lungs, her doctor prescribed the well-known blood thinner warfarin.

But after taking the medicine, Karen suffered an adverse drug reaction that almost proved fatal. But thanks to a new genetic test, her doctor was able to determine Karen had a strong sensitivity to warfarin and needed a much smaller dose.

And Karen is not the only one. Recent studies show nearly one-third of the 2 million patients taking warfarin have a similar dosing sensitivity. Which is why the FDA now recommends genetic testing for all new patients prescribed this popular drug.

Prescription Deaths from 1999 - 2004

Each year millions of people are hospitalized and hundred of thousands die because of adverse drug reactions. Soon doctors will be able to select treatments and dosing based on individual needs -- saving not only lives, but also hundreds of millions of dollars in healthcare costs...

Which is one of the reasons genetic testing and personalized medicine are core beneficiaries and components of Obama's stimulus and healthcare plans. (More on this in a second, including the name of a little-known, yet very important, piece of legislation Barack Obama fought for as a junior senator from Illinois.)

But let's back up a second. As I said, in many cases doctors won't even need to wait for symptoms. With knowledge of how an individual is predisposed to certain illnesses or diseases, a doctor will be able to advise patients about diet, lifestyle, and preventive measures -- making it possible to delay or prevent an illness altogether...

Which is exactly what happened with Gina Spangenberg... You see, not too long ago Gina tested positive for a gene mutation that put her at an 85% risk of developing breast cancer.

Facing a future that included an almost certain battle with breast cancer, Gina made the decision to undergo a preventitive treatment plan. That decision cut her risk of getting breast cancer by an incredible 90% and now gives her what she calls an "overwhelming sense of relief" about her future.

And stories like these are just the tip of the iceberg. Understanding more about the genetic basis for disease will also lead to more effective drug development for... and a quicker cure for... complex conditions like cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer's.

Amazing, right? In fact, this is all happening in doctors' offices RIGHT NOW for patients willing to spend $50,000 to have their genomes mapped.

Which brings me back to the investment potential, and the secret I mentioned to finding the companies that will soar and avoiding the ones that will fizzle...
The secret to identifying breakthrough investments: disruptive technology and lower prices...

Think back to those real-life examples, electricity, cars, and computers, I mentioned. Those were "disruptive technologies" in their day. They changed everything in a very short period of time.

But could a single secret really identify the winners of those revolutionary moments just as the race was beginning?

It's fascinating this secret isn't more well known. Or widely accepted, because it's the most important principle of capitalism. It's the reason free markets constantly yield an ever-increasing quality of life over time...

And the most interesting thing is that the secret is so simple and straightforward...

Here it is -- the best investments cause massive reductions in consumer prices. That's it. That's all there is to it, but, of course, delivering massive reductions in price isn't easy. However, when you find the companies that are doing it, then you know you've got a winner.

Take Ford, for example. Early last century, the first Model T's began selling for $950 each. And these were the least-expensive, best cars in the world by far. The price eventually dropped down to $280 per car... and by the time they stopped making them, over 15 million were sold in the U.S. alone.

Or consider how two of the titans of the computer revolution emerged...

Intel and Apple began in garages in California during the 1970s. Both start-ups had the simple idea that they could make computers so cheap that everyone could afford one. And this was during a time when calculators cost $500 and a computer cost more than most houses!

Maybe you took notice when the first Apple computers were offered for around $600 each...

This definitely caught the eye of some pretty smart investors in the early 1980s -- those who recognized the potential for a computer in every home were rewarded with life-changing gains. Intel has returned 4,471%... while Apple has thrown off 3,857% gains.
So what do all these stories have to do with you?

They all have at their core -- that single, simple secret of wealth creation I just told you about. And once you understand the secret, and know how to recognize it, finding blockbuster-stocks-in-the-making isn't nearly as hard as it may seem.

So if you're interested in learning more, and being a pitbull on the pant leg of this rare $1,000 genome opportunity. I congratulate you. Because your timing couldn't be better...
"June 8, 2009 -- Rival scientific teams, including three in the Bay Area, are racing to devise next-generation sequencing technologies that can accurately decode an entire human genome in less than 30 minutes for $1,000."
-- San Jose Mercury News

The company David and Tom Gardner are recommending has a position INSIDE THE VORTEX OF THIS HISTORIC WINDFALL! It's a top seller of genetic diagnostic tools to research labs and universities all over the world... at the same time it's rolling out announcement after announcement about genome sequencing in record-breaking times, at lower and lower costs.

The stock has returned an astounding 1,105% over the last 5 years -- a period when the S&P 500 has lost 19%. More recently, over the last 12 months... during one of the most difficult years in history for most companies... revenue at this company grew a jaw-dropping 48%.

Genome Stock versus the S&P 500

How is this company, and its investors, raking it in when the biggest, most powerful companies in the world are in a fight for their lives? The answer is straight ahead. But first, I should tell you why I'm so excited about a stock that's already up this much...

This company's stock isn't soaring on the promise of some pie-in-the-sky technology. Its business is already massively profitable, with revenue easily topping $500 million in 2008. You see, long before the $1,000 genome was on the horizon, this company pioneered a unique way of getting rapid, inexpensive reads on critical parts of the genome.

And it sells the tools to do this to those who can eagerly afford them: drug companies, labs, universities and other researchers. For years, we (scientists and lab rats!) have been using these disposable gene chips and arrays by the truckload to discover the causes of disease... and why some people don't react the same way to medicines as others.

In other words, this company has a rock-solid business and revenue stream... one that not only supports, but also informs, its step into the era of consumer genomics and personalized medicine...

And from what I know of their science and lab work, I believe they have the inside track to the $1,000 genome. And I'm willing to stake my reputation on it!
"The cost of determining a person's complete genetic blueprint is about to plummet again."
-- The New York Times, October 6, 2008

The New York Times goes on to say, at $1,000 it could "become commonplace for people to obtain their entire DNA sequences, giving them information on what diseases they might be predisposed to or what drugs would work best for them."

Remember how Intel and Apple set out to change the world? And as I mentioned, Intel stock rose over 45 times in value. Apple rose over 39 times in value. That's 20% to 23% annual growth -- every year for a decade and a half! And yet, they were still just small forces in a much larger revolution...

Companies like Microsoft provided the operating systems... Netscape, the browser... Cisco, the routers and hardware... and so on. In a similar way, a handful of companies of the genomics revolution will become tomorrow's household names -- some will interpret genetic data, some will interface with consumers, others will build and sell the hardware.

In my view as an investor, and a scientist, this company I'm telling you about is becoming the leader in a number of vital ways. And is sitting in the driver's seat at a rare moment when a disruptive revolution unfolds and an unbelievable amount of wealth is created!
The Race for the $1,000 Genome: One Stock to Own Now

That's why I'd like to help you make a well-informed decision. Remember, I'm not a marketer. I'm just an avid investor and a lab rat. So I'm not trying to persuade you to do anything... instead I'm simply trying to help you decide.

And the best way I know to do this is to direct your attention to a valuable offer from The Motley Fool: a hot-off-the-press FREE report with full details on this once-in-a-century $1,000 genome opportunity.

You see, not so long ago I was faced with the same decision you're now facing. And here's one of the things that gave me a lot of confidence -- The Motley Fool GUARANTEES everything it offers, including this report!

I'll explain the guarantee in a second. But first, I have a confession to make...

When I joined David and Tom Gardner's one-of-a-kind investment club, Motley Fool Stock Advisor, I had NO interest in reading about a bunch of pretty good stocks. Presumably, I'm invested along those lines in my 401(k) and IRA mutual funds...
What investors like you are saying about Motley Fool Stock Advisor...

What I wanted out of this service was to discover a few rare, life-changing stocks...

I'm talking about fortune makers. The kind of investments that will complement my salary. And make it possible to pay off my mortgage ahead of schedule and send my children to the schools of their choice. To take nice vacations, not extravagant, just a nice annual trip to the beach or mountains and a trip to Europe every few years (and maybe Asia one day)!

And so far, I've been nothing short of dazzled by Motley Fool Stock Advisor. Take a look...

In April 2003, Tom Gardner recommended buying shares of a company called Quality Systems that takes old-fashioned medical and dental records and converts them to digital files. When Tom recommended the stock, it was trading at just over $5 a share... Six years and one month later the stock was above $55 a share. Making this a "10-bagger" for our investment club...

A $10,000 investment in Quality Systems has grown to more than $112,000 today. And THESE AREN'T IMAGINARY GAINS. A fellow Stock Advisor member recently wrote:
"I have made a killing on Quality Systems ($100K+). I bought it when Tom first recommended it, and I still love this stock. Without Stock Advisor, I never would've known this stock existed."
-- Mark T., Burr Ridge, IL

In July 2002, David Gardner recommended snapping up shares of the comic book entertainment company Marvel Enterprises. At the time, it was priced just under $3.50 a share... by fall of 2008 it was trading above $36 -- that's right, another 10-bagger for our group!
